That’s the idea behind our vendor managed inventory service where we manage a customer’s shipping pallet inventory for them. Through the program, we send BC Wood Products staff to a customer’s facility each week to count how many of our wood shipping pallets a customer has on hand.
We then use those inventory tallies and our knowledge of how many they typically use to make a recommendation on how many more pallets the customer needs to order. We do that to make sure they always have enough wood pallets at their disposal to get their products where they need to go.

Flexibility with ordering pallets
Flexibility is also built into the program in order to cater to each customer’s unique shipping needs. A customer can always modify any recommendation we make on the number of pallets they order when they know there’s an expected spike in demand or another situation coming up that will impact their shipping pallet inventory.
We also randomly audit our pallet counts and ordering recommendations to make sure we’re giving our customers the right number of wooden pallets to meet their own customers’ needs.

About one-third of our customers use the service, and they love it. That’s not surprising because the idea originated with a suggestion from a customer looking for ways to simplify managing their wood pallet inventory. More than a decade later, we’re still offering the service.
