If you walk through BC Wood Products’ facility here in Central Virginia, you’ll hear electric saws carving lumber into the wood packaging materials our customers need to keep their items safe in transit.
That sound means our business is up and running and that our customers’ items are secure on the road. It’s a beautiful sound, and it’s a constant reminder of how much we believe in the durability that wood offers as a product.
What type of wood does BC Wood Products use?
Every single item that our customers get from us — our pallets, crates, and cut stock lumber — is crafted from wood, either southern yellow pine or hardwood.
Do you create custom-built pallets?
We can custom-build each item based on what our customers need, and we heat treat our products to certify they are free of wood-borne pests. We know how great wood is at ensuring things get where they need to go without being damaged along the way, and we’re not alone.
Why wooden pallets are better than plastic pallets
Most of the goods moving through the supply chain are resting on or within wood packaging of some sort. That fact alone demonstrates how other companies also trust the strength of wood. I’ve also worked at companies that make pallets from plastic, so I have a unique insight into selling different types of shipping products.
Wood costs less, so you get more bang for your buck when using a wooden pallet instead of a plastic one. A plastic pallet can also soften and bow in the heat of the summer or become brittle and break when it’s very cold, but wood keeps its shape during extreme temperatures.
Wood packaging can also handle heavier loads, and it has lots of environmental benefits. It’s more biodegradable than plastic, and a tree cut down to make our pallets is replaced by two newly planted trees.
Some customers have traditionally used plastic pallets, and we have discussions with them about the value that comes with using a wood product.
We use wood products at our own office, including our conference tables and trash cans. Our building is also built from the lumber that we purchase. That shows how comfortable we are with wood and how we know it has so many great applications.
Not only do we sell wood, we live by it. The strength and utility wood offers has been the foundation of our business for decades.
